Biometric Passport Photo for Germany
The measurements German passport and ID photos use, and how to crop and resize your own photo to match — entirely in your browser.
German passport and identity card photos are 35 × 45 mm portrait format, with the head filling roughly 32 to 36 mm from chin to crown, a neutral expression, closed mouth, both eyes open and visible, and an even, plain background without shadows.
Pixel sizes for 35 × 45 mm
At 300 DPI, 35 × 45 mm is 413 × 531 pixels; at 600 DPI it is 827 × 1063 pixels. If an upload form asks for pixels rather than millimetres, use those numbers and keep the 7:9 ratio.
What this tool can and cannot do
It crops to the 7:9 shape, resizes to exact millimetres or pixels with a DPI value, and compresses to a KB limit — all locally, so your photo is never uploaded. It cannot judge whether a photo will be accepted; head position, lighting and background are assessed by the issuing office, so confirm the current rules with your local authority before you use the photo.
