Passport Size Photo Size in cm, mm, inches & pixels

Standard passport photo dimensions and how to convert them.

A standard passport size photo is 3.5 × 4.5 cm (35 × 45 mm, about 1.38 × 1.77 inches), which is a 7:9 portrait ratio. At the 300 DPI print resolution most portals expect, that is 413 × 531 pixels. The United States is the main exception: it uses a square 2 × 2 inch (51 × 51 mm, 600 × 600 px) photo.

How to convert cm to pixels for a passport photo

Pixels = centimetres ÷ 2.54 × DPI. For 3.5 cm at 300 DPI: 3.5 ÷ 2.54 × 300 ≈ 413 pixels. Use 300 DPI when the photo will be printed, and follow the portal's stated pixel size when the photo is only uploaded — some Indian exam portals ask for smaller sizes such as 200 × 230 px with a 20–50 KB file limit.

Make your own photo match these numbers

Crop to the 35 × 45 mm shape, set the exact dimensions in cm, mm, inches or pixels with a DPI value, then hit the file-size limit — all in your browser, with no upload.
